Collagen is an extra cellular fibre which resides within the dermis, offering tensile strength, structure and elasticity to the skin. From age 25-30 collagen begins to deplete, which is the time we start to notice changes in the skin, including the development of fine lines and enlarged pores. As the body ages and with contribution from environmental toxins and sun damage, collagen depletion is accelerated.
From age 40, the body ceases to produce collagen, which is when we often notice a reduction in skin’s volume and elasticity. Gravitational changes occur, as there is the loss of the skins support and structure.

Laser Rejuvenation
Laser Rejuvenation
With a course of Excel V laser rejuvenation treatments we can help stimulate collagen production, as well as treat the skin complexion, thereby improving the appearance of ageing. Non-ablative laser rejuvenation is now a recognizable and proven method for improving the appearance of aged skin.
Excel V laser is particularly appropriate because its long wavelength and low affinity for pigmentation allows it to penetrate deeply into the dermis. Studies testing the effects of the laser on skin have shown it to statistically significantly stimulate collagen formation in the reticular dermis of the skin. The full effects of laser rejuvenation and skin tightening may take a few months to be seen due to the gradual nature of collagen production. There will be no damage to the superficial layers of skin.
It is important to understand that laser treatments are aimed to improve the appearance of ageing through collagen stimulation, however treatments do not simulate the results of surgical lifting procedures.

Topical antioxidants, including Vitamin A and C are important for fighting free radical damage which leads to the acceleration of ageing. Applied daily, they offer collagen stimulation, improving fine lines, skin laxity and enlarged pores. Daily sun protection is paramount to prevent sun damage, which is one of the leading causes of accelerated ageing.
